What is a core charge?

Certain types of appliance parts can be recycled and/or remanufactured for future sale. These parts have a core value that is used as a form of deposit on the portion of the part that can be remanufactured and that is designed to encourage return of the old part. The "core," is simply your old part. Returning cores save you money on replacement parts.

The most common appliance parts that may have a core value include electronic range controls.

Core Charges

The sale of a part involves the price of the part itself, as well as any additional core charge. This is done to encourage the return of the old part for recycling/remanufacturing purposes. The core charge, sometimes called a core price, is a form of deposit you pay until returning your old broken part. That charge is refunded in full to you when you return the core.

For example, if you purchase a new electronic range control with a $35 core charge, you must pay the core charge when you buy the part. After you replace the controller, you ship the old one back to us with your receipt (which includes the core charge). As long as the old part is in acceptable condition, we will then refund the $35.

How to Return a Core

All core returns must have a Return Authorization number (RAN) which can be requested online 24 hours a day.

  1. Download and complete the return form below.

  2. Contact our Customer Service online and obtain a return authorization number. Include this number on your downloaded claim form.
  3. Insert a copy of the original purchase receipt and the COMPLETED core claim form in the return package as proof of purchase.

  4. Using the shipping label on the return form, ship the part in question to:

  5. Mail the package to the address provided on the return form. We are not responsible for packages that are lost or damaged in transit. As such, we recommend that you ship the part back to us with a method that is insured and/or trackable.

When we've received and processed the returned core, we will promptly issue a credit to the credit card used for the original purchase in the purchase amount of the core price for the item, plus any applicable tax. We do not refund shipping costs for core returns. Typically this credit process will take one week from the receipt of the part.

Please note that failure to send the part to the address listed above or failure to provide the required information can substantially delay the refund process.
